Presidential elections were held in Colombia on 29 May 2022.

As none of the presidential nominees obtained at least 50% of the votes, a runoff was held on 19 June 2022.

The runoff was between the top two candidates, Gustavo Petro and Rodolfo Hernández Suárez.

With 50.5 percent of the vote, Gustavo Petro, a former member of the M-19 political movement, wins Colombia's presidential runoff.

The victory in Sunday’s presidential runoff election has made Petro Colombia’s first left-wing president.

He has promised profound social and economic change for the country.

Petro's running mate Francia Marquez, a single mother and former housekeeper, will be the country's first Afro-Colombian female vice president, making history even again.
