In Game 4 between the Golden State Warriors and Sacramento Kings, Steph Curry nearly had his own Chris Webber moment. Up by five points, Curry called for a timeout after a rebound off a missed shot from the Kings. However, the Warriors were out of timeouts, resulting in a technical free throw for the Kings. The Kings then capitalized on the mistake, with Fox hitting a three-pointer to bring the game within one point. The Warriors were able to end up winning the game, but Curry’s move was criticized and compared to Webber’s mistake in Michigan’s championship loss to North Carolina in 1993.
Despite the mistake, Curry was able to lead the Warriors with 32 points, five rebounds, and four assists. Coach Steve Kerr took responsibility for the miscommunication, but Curry admitted that he thought it was the smartest play at the time. The Warriors and Kings will face off again in Game 5 on Wednesday night, and Curry will undoubtedly be looking to redeem himself after his near-costly mistake.
