As soon as you hear the words “Strictly Come Dancing,” one of the names that instantly comes to mind is Len Goodman. He was the head judge on the popular TV show for 12 seasons, and during that time, he became one of the most iconic faces in the world of ballroom dancing.

Sadly, on December 13, 2021, the BBC announced that Len Goodman had passed away at the age of 78. The news was a shock for many, especially those whose lives he had touched in some way with his incredible talent and infectious personality.

Goodman grew up in London and started dancing at a young age, which eventually led him to become a professional dancer. He later transitioned into TV and became a judge on various shows, including “Dancing With the Stars” in the US and “Strictly Come Dancing” in the UK.

However, it was his time on “Strictly” that cemented his status as a household name. He was known for his wit, charm, and sharp critiques of the celebrities’ dancing skills. He was regarded as a stickler for proper technique, and his high standards helped elevate the show’s overall level of excellence.

But beyond his contributions to the world of dance, Len Goodman will be remembered for his warmth and humor. He was beloved by fans and contestants alike, and he always had a kind word or a bit of advice to share.

In a 2019 interview with the Guardian, Len Goodman talked about how being a judge on “Strictly” had changed his perspective on dance: “When I was first asked to do the programme I wasn’t sure, because I thought it might be a bit of a mickey-take. But I’m so glad I did it because it’s dispelled the preconception about what dance classes or schools are like.”

Len Goodman’s legacy will undoubtedly live on through the countless people he inspired to take up dancing, the fans who loved watching him on “Strictly,” and the family and friends who knew him personally. He will be deeply missed but never forgotten.

Rest in peace, Len Goodman. Thank you for everything you gave to the world of dance and beyond.
