The Tampa Bay Rays continue to make history with their franchise-best 10-0 season-opening win streak after securing a tight 1-0 victory against American League East rivals Boston Red Sox on Monday night. Whilst the previous nine games brought somewhat easier opposition, this game against the Red Sox brought a typical tight battle between the two teams. The victory came from Brandon Lowe, who secured what he has dubbed as one of the best at-bats of his career so far. He swatted an eighth-inning homer to take the Rays victory and extend their MLB-leading record.

This year’s Rays team has already set a new franchise record by becoming the first big-league team to win their first ten since 1987, when the Milwaukee Brewers won their opening 13. Their increasingly impressive start is not only being regarded in the history books, but it’s also earning them a reputation as a team to watch out for, as they set out to make a bid for their second World Series title. Despite being up against some strong teams, the Rays’ confidence has been unwavering, their work on the mound on Monday with five pitchers securing a third straight shutout, the first time in their 26 seasons.

Like Lowe, the rest of the Rays baseball team are seemingly relishing each game, and continuing to give their all to achieve their impressive start. Commenting on the team’s success Lowe said, “We’ve done this before…we’re just pretty cool to do it when we’re doing it, and how we’re doing it”, suggesting further that their determination, grit and grace under pressure will no doubt make them one of the teams to watch this season.

All eyes are on the Rays and whether or not they can continue to build and sustain their winning form as they face the other MLB teams down the line.
