Post-Stroke Aphasia, Researchers Found Effective Treatment
Aphasia is a state caused by brain damage that hit the ability to communicate through speech or written language. While treating post-stroke aphasia, the Researchers from Heyang County Chinese Medicine Hospital confirmed that a protocol of acupuncture plus herbal medicine is successful than a protocol of Edaravone injections. Acupuncture plus herbs bring off 92.94% total treatment effective rate. Edaravone injections extend to 75.29% total treatment effective rate.
Research on Tongue Acupuncture
The treatment group patients receive Tongue Acupuncture, body acupuncture and herbal medicine. For tongue acupuncture, involves points Juquan, Jinjin and Yuye. Juquan (Ex-HN10) is pin down at the center of the tongue midline, when the tongue is outstretched. Jinjin and Yuye are paired points on the veins sidelong to the frenulum of the tongue. The Jinjin is on the patient’s left side and Yuye on the right. To find these points on the bottom of the tongue, a tool naming tongue blade or bandage is used to roll back the tongue.
The researchers inserts needles into the tongue acupuncture points and immediately takes out. No retention of needles was administered for the tongue points. For a month, one 30-minute electro-acupuncture session is organized daily. The Henan Kaifeng Central Hospital investigates the treatment efficacy of acupuncture combined with speech therapy (ST) for post-stroke aphasia patients. The researchers determined that acupuncture with ST yielded better treatment results than using ST as standalone therapy.
Findings of the treatment
A group of people were treated in the study, the team comprising of 70 people. They were randomly divided into a treatment group and a control group with 30 patients in each group. The treatment group went through acupuncture with ST while the control group received only ST. The acupuncture treatment was comprised of three parts: scalp acupuncture, body acupuncture, and bleeding technique acupuncture.
