Get ready for major traffic disruptions in Grant Park area for more than a month leading up to the July 1-2 NASCAR races. The city’s announcement of street closures and traffic patterns leading up to the races warned of rolling road closures and blockades around Grant Park during the period. NASCAR’s activities will close Southbound DuSable Lake Shore Drive, Columbus Drive, and Michigan Avenue from Monroe to McFetridge Drive for weeks. The most significant closure is southbound DuSable Lake Shore Drive, which will be closed for six days, from 10 p.m. June 28 to after the race weekend. Northbound DuSable Lake Shore Drive will halt operations for only two days from July 1 to July 2. These will be the first street races ever held in the organization’s 75-year history. NASCAR’s activities will attract an estimated 100,000 racegoers over the two days, and the event is estimated to bring in around $60 million to the city’s economy.
