The Minnesota Timberwolves are gearing up to play the Oklahoma City Thunder on Friday night in a match that could secure their slot in the Western Conference playoff race. However, the team’s key contributors, Rudy Gobert and Karl-Anthony Towns, are both listed as questionable for the game.
After being suspended for one game for trying to punch teammate Kyle Anderson during the team’s regular season finale, Gobert missed the play-in loss to Los Angeles Lakers earlier this week. Now, the Frenchman is said to be suffering from back spasms, making him uncertain for the upcoming game. Despite this, Gobert is hopeful that he will recover in time for tip-off.
Towns is also in jeopardy of not playing due to a right calf strain. Considering the Timberwolves’ playoff hopes are on the line, it is likely that the two will at least attempt to play. However, it remains to be seen whether they will be physically capable of participating to the fullest extent.
In addition to his injury concerns, Gobert was also asked about his altercation with Anderson that resulted in his suspension. The two apologized to each other, and Gobert insists that they have moved on from the incident. He further stated that sometimes people argue with those they love, and it’s just a part of life.
The Wolves have had a disappointing season, despite acquiring Gobert last offseason via a blockbuster trade. Despite their underwhelming performance this year, they still have an opportunity to make it to the postseason. But, first, they must overcome the uncertain statuses of their key players.
