Lady Gaga’s appearance in Joker 2’s filming scene attracted both fans and curious onlookers. The scene was shot outside the New York County Supreme Court and involved protestors, news vans, extras, and police officers. Among the onlookers was Ruben, a food-delivery worker, who initially thought the crowds were there to watch Donald Trump’s arrest but soon found out it was for the Joker 2 movie shoot. However, Ruben was not a fan of Gaga, so he wasn’t very enthusiastic about the spotting.
The set, which looked surreal with Gotham news vans and extras demanding to “lock that Joker up,” drew in a crowd of around a hundred spectators at its peak. Two locals mentioned they had seen some protestors but didn’t know if they were Trump voters or extras in the DC Universe.
On the other hand, Gaga fans were thrilled about the opportunity to see their star. Tourists Shoval and Enzo connected over Twitter and were at the shoot from 7 a.m. to catch a glimpse of Gaga. Emily, a self-proclaimed “Little Monster,” sneaked onto the set on Saturday, pretended to be an extra, and even got close enough to touch Gaga. While being removed from the set, Emily vowed to return the next day in disguise to try again.
While shooting resumed on Sunday after lunch, the number of onlookers had risen to over 50 people, corralled across the street from the courthouse. In the scene, Lady Gaga plays Harley Quinn, who gets aggressive with a staged protester, pulling her in for an unexpected kiss. The audience gasped when the kiss happened.
Fans praised Gaga’s professionalism and focus during the shoot. However, some, like Ruben, were not excited about the whole experience. Nevertheless, it was quite an eventful day for those on the scene, with the presence of one of the most prominent female artists in pop culture, kissing a female co-star for a movie.
