The Los Angeles Clippers kicked off their playoff campaign with a sweet victory over the Phoenix Suns, winning the game 115-110. The Clippers dominated the first quarter with Eric Gordon and Kawhi Leonard doing exceptional work, scoring 10 and 38 points, respectively. However, the Suns came back strong with Chris Paul and Devin Booker leading the charge, and the game was tied 81-81 by the end of the third quarter.
The Suns were hitting their stride in the fourth quarter, leading by as much as 6 points. But the Clippers were not to be denied. Russell Westbrook took over on the defensive end and made some timely blocks and steals, leading to clutch baskets by Leonard and Kevin Durant. The Suns tried to make a comeback, but with Westbrook keeping the defense tight, they failed to convert their shots.
The Suns can take heart from the performances of Booker, who scored 26 points, and Torrey Craig, who added 22. Chris Paul struggled to find his mark, but his 10 assists and 11 rebounds showed his value to the team. The Clippers, on the other hand, will be pleased with their opening win, thanks to Kawhi Leonard’s 38 points in 42 minutes, leading them to a 1-0 lead in the series.
The Suns will have to come back stronger to win Game 2, but this game showed that they have what it takes to go toe-to-toe with the Clippers. Although they lost the game, they will hope to build on their momentum as they look to overturn the series deficit. Meanwhile, the Clippers will look to build on their strong start and take the lead in Game 2.
