Kathy Griffin, the famous comedian, recently shared her mental health struggles in a TikTok video, revealing that she has been diagnosed with an “extreme case” of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD). In the video, she talked about her traumatic story when she posted a video holding a mask featuring the severed head of former US President Donald Trump, which caused controversy and led to the cancellation of many of her stand-up shows and TV projects. She also claimed that she was investigated by federal officers and was placed on the No Fly List for two months.

Kathy further mentioned that she had recently experienced an eight-hour panic attack and was in the middle of an anxiety attack as she made the video. She disclosed that she planned to try EMDR and has been practising self-care and receiving love from her family, friends, and her pets.

PTSD is a severe mental health disorder that affects individuals who have experienced or witnessed traumatic events. Although it is normal to feel anxious or afraid after a traumatic event, some people develop symptoms gradually and start experiencing various mental health issues. These symptoms can include flashbacks, nightmares, avoidance, anxiety, and depression.

It takes a great deal of courage to speak publicly about their mental health struggles, especially for someone in the public eye like Kathy Griffin, who is setting an example for others. Her story highlights the importance of speaking out and getting help when experiencing such disorders. It’s essential to seek professional help from therapists, psychiatrists, or counsellors to deal with the symptoms, as PTSD can have a long-term impact on an individual’s life.

In conclusion, sharing stories like Kathy Griffin’s and raising awareness about PTSD is necessary to break the stigma attached to mental health issues. The more we talk and share our experiences, the more we can help those who suffer from mental health issues, and the less likely people will be afraid to seek help for their struggles.
