Disneyland in Anaheim, California, is always in the excitement news, and this time, a Maleficent dragon prop had caused all the talk. On April 22, the talking mouse Mickey Mouse in his hat and cloak was in the midst of the “Fantasmic!” show when a fire-breathing dragon caused panic. Suddenly, during the show, the dragon prop caught on fire, and Mickey had to run to leave the amphitheatre. People were evacuated, and some even stayed to click photographs.
No one was seriously hurt in the incident, however, at least six employees, were treated for smoke inhalation. Disney has released a statement confirming they will temporarily suspend fire effects from select shows and entertainment experiences globally as a precautionary measure.
The Maleficent dragon has had technical problems before, which caused a delay in its initial debut in ‘Fantasmic!’ in 2009. Another Maleficent animatronic burst into flames precisely in Disney World’s Magic Kingdom in 2018.
Disney has not released what caused the fire to break out. Despite this incident, park-goers are still thrilled to have experienced a once-in-a-lifetime event.
