During an appearance on “The Late Show with Stephen Colbert,” Woody Harrelson confirmed Matthew McConaughey’s claim that they might be brothers, saying “there is some veracity to that thought.” They are set to appear in an upcoming Apple TV+ comedy series, “Brother From Another Mother,” which is a fictionalized portrayal of their own friendship.
Harrelson said they want to get a DNA test done to confirm their brotherhood. “I mean he feels like he is losing a father. But I’m like, no, you’re gaining a different father and a brother,” Harrelson said on the show.
Their friendship spans decades when they met during the shooting of the movie, “Ron Howard’s EDtv.” Harrelson and McConaughey have since worked together on two seasons of the critically acclaimed HBO series “True Detective.”
The speculation of their possible brotherhood started when McConaughey revealed on the podcast “Let’s Talk Off Camera with Kelly Ripa” that his mother and Harrelson’s father could have met in West Texas while his own parents were undergoing their second divorce.
While no one knows for sure, Justin Theroux, who is set to appear with Harrelson on HBO’s upcoming series, said: “I wouldn’t be surprised if Matthew McConaughey and Woody Harrelson turned out to be half-brothers.”
It’s not known if and when they will get the DNA test done, but let’s hope that this potential brotherhood will bring even more amazing projects for the two talented actors to work on together.
